Crocheted cameo locket

I wanted to make my mum a birthday present, and then the 'Jane Austen' contest in and I just had to do something Jane Austen themed for her!

I remembered how for Elinor and Marianne Dashwood in "Sense and Sensibility" keeping locks of hair of a loved one was quite an 'in' thing - and what better place to keep locks of hair than in lockets!
Cameos were apparently part of Jane Austen's society according to [link] so I started of with high spirits on this project.
I had hoped to crochet the profile of the lady as well, but the yarn and hook were too thick for such a small piece so I had to use my (rather rusty) embroidery skills - with a bit of imagination I'm sure you can see the lady's luscious hair and pretty flower. I also wanted to crochet thin metal wire for the border, but it turned out much more tricky to handle so I settled for using just yarn.

It is a fully functioning locket - the bead acts as a clasp - and everything was crocheted (including the necklace). Modelled by a friend.

Concept and pattern are original, I'd appreciate if you don't use it for commercial purposes.
